 Topic: Brick Masonry Columns
Hi Experts

By the grace of God and your Help I have started the construction of my house last week.

My Engineer after putting the footing and erecting the metal rods for columns, he is started building the brick wall around the metal rods and filling with RCC.
This is very new to me as I have seen only complete RCC in the coumns.

Please some one help me to understand and recommend which one is better.

Join date: Aug 2013		I mean to say there is no shutters around the metal rods instead there is a brick wall, which will be filled with RCC. My engineer says it will be stronger than columns with shuttters

      The proper way is to make RCC pillar with doing shuttering.If your contractor doing with brick wall than the size of column is enhanced which you see is according to the size given in drawing. I think he reduce the RCC size and make it proper by adding brick masonry. He is saving the shuttering.See the link below

Hi Gupta sir, tks for your reply

The size of the column with RCC is same as mentioned in the plan, the brick shuttering is extra than the size and this is only for the foundation up to ground level after that there will be metal shuttering.
