Join date: Aug 2018 | Partially you can do. Carpenters make full board/playwood boxes and then fix counter with Areldite on top. After counter and boxes are fixed tiling is done on backsplash area. However I have done partial concrete modular kitchen in my current flat some 15 years back. Its a U shape kitchen with 40mm granite. If I would have gone for full plywood boxes as interior designer suggested then cost would have been huge because granite was quite thick and heavy. So I placed granite slabs on brick amd mortar support. After that shelves were made just like how it is done in wardrobes and Blum channels and steel baskets were fitted. On one side it is full sliding steel baskets and on opposite under platform is storage area with shelvesIn the area were I wanted just storage and no sliding Only wooden frame and shutters were fixed and shelves were made with 13mm ply. These days a better material called wood-cement board / fiber cement board is available in market. It is also available as pre-laminated from both sides. You can use this for boxes and shelves as it is 100% water proof anf stronger then ply.
For shutters use ply with lamination as fiber cement board is heavy so not good for shutters. I am planning to do construction of independent house and this time will go for wood- cement for wardrobes and kitchen except shutters.
Popular brands of wood-cement are shera board , century zyrcon , V board .. there are two finishes one for exterior cladding and another 6x4 board for interior partition work. | |
