 Topic: Columns and beams
Hello,
I am planning to build a single floor sloping roof Kerala style house around 1500 sq ft (3 bed 2 bath). I will be using 8" interlocking bricks instead of regular bricks. Is it necessary that columns and beams are a must or can they be avoided and the walls will bear the load?

Join date: May 2014		The columns can be avoided, you may need few beams. 
You wont be able to change much in the inner layout in future if constructing the floors above the ground floor.

        In case of load bearing walls we can avoid columns.
In single story there is no need of columns.
