I am building a three storey house, which includes basement, ground floor and first floor. After laying the foundation for basement, I started raising 9" load bearing walls of bricks. After achieving the height of 4 feet from plinth beam, I came to know the crushing strength of the bricks is 88 Kg/cm2 instead of 105 Kg/cm2 for First class bricks. The total height of basement walls is 9 feet and 6 inches. " Should I continue using the same bricks or should I change with better quality bricks? Thanks |

After reading the contents I am in view that you have no any structural drawing. If you have structural design then there would be RCC COLUMN for taking the load and wallto be designed with RCC Wall with brick wall.
Now as stated by you that you are using sub standard bricks, change the sub standard bricks emmidately and also do water froofing in the basement.at gharexpert website there is section of basement you should find lot of material for basement construction. Link is given below

Dear Gupta shahab
As mentioned earlier, I have changed the bricks with first class bricks (Having strength of more than 105 kg/cm2). Now I would request your advice about the bricks already in foundation which are of older strength( 88 Kg/cm2). What I should do with the bricks in the foundation in order to make them more stronger? I am constructing three storey building.
Thanking you in anticipation
Regards

For the foundation made earlier, do plaster on both side of wall with cement and coarse sand with the ratio 1;3 to give extra strength to walls.

In my view it is better if you take proper design from any structural engineer, because the situation of columns are according to the detailed plan of the building/ house, according to the loading position etc. However in hit and trial method you may place 6 nos columns.
