 Topic: Length of cantilever beam
If one end of a beam is hanging (e.g. beams in balconies, porches) and we want to put a wall on this side to make a room, what portion of this beam shall go inside the existing lantern or an existing beam to provide adequate support.

       It is matter of design, the structural engineer design after calculating the load.
For reference only the  length of cantilever should be double in roof slab and same is the case of loading
