Join date: Mar 2008 | Dear Ahmed It is better if you take structural design from any structure engineer.For youe query I am in view that keep the column size 9''x9'' and use 6 nos 16 mm dia steel bars.

Join date: Aug 2013 | Tks Mr.Gupta My Engineer is telling me to go for 9" x 9" with 4 Nos of 12 MM TMt steel rods as it is sufficinet for g+2 otherwise column will crack in 6 months. I need your advice. | |

Join date: Mar 2008 | Dear Pattyman Your engineer may be right.But Keeping safety factor in mind i.e. there are earth quack and storm etc and keep the building earth quack proof. Secondly when you are given load of wall and slab to beam which was bear by the column, by that column should be strong.Give proper cover to the steel bars at least 1'' and proper mix of cement concrete be used and do proper curing, there should not be any problem like crack.
