Join date: Mar 2008 | Dear Gepter The process of filling the column or pillar is not technical. You should first fill the column with doing proper form work and compact cement concrete by vibrator. The process tell by you have following disadvantage
Disadvantages
- This is not water tight shuttering as the size and thickness of
planks differ and are not of same size. Due to this difference the water
and cement flow to the ground from joints and reduce the strength of
concrete.
- Bottom level of RCC slab is not in straight line and the surface
being uneven, the thickness of plaster is more which remains weak.
- Due to leakage of cement slurry through joints, earth work below ’'Ballies’ may settle and create problems.
- In some cases wooden planks can not bear the weight of concrete. Due
to low strength there is bending or deflection in wooden planks.
Sometimes the planks may break.

Thanks you Mr. SL Gupta, for your practical advice.
Could you please suggest any way of bonding the brick wall to the RCC pillar.
I have seen people put extra bar bent at right angle on the side of the pillar. Once the pillar is ready and form work removed, the extra bar is straightened to blend into the wall. Is this practice ok or does it has its flaws?
Thanks, Gpeter

Join date: Mar 2008 | Dear Gpeter There is no need for bonding the RCC Column/ pillar with brick wall. In all the engineering works or building you can see that no one doing this type of bonding. The bonding is not required as the thermal expansion of concrete and brick work is different create cracks later on. Th e best way is at the time of plaster you should make groves between pillar and brick work which minimize the cracks and add beauty to the plaster and this is the right way of engineering.
