I have a house in Salt Lake, Kolkata. It was built in 1980s. It has 1 floor now.
I wish to add a second floor of 1400 sq ft. I will retire there in 5 years.
I would want better than average flooring/ cabinets/ wood-work/ kitchen/ bathroom.
How much money should I be thinking of? How many months should this take if I want to start after the rains? Are there a set of architects in Salt Lake, Kolkata that you recommend? Architects who will build this?

Hi Joy,
Your house was built in 1980's. There are very less chances to change the internal planning (layout) of your house. To change it you may need to add columns from the ground floor which may cost you to change the entire floor of ground floor.
You can add a second floor of 1400 sq ft but the construction must be wall on walls or add columns.
For better than average flooring/ cabinets/ wood-work/ kitchen/ bathroom you may need around 24 lac's for new floor and 10-12 lac's for ground floor renovation.
It will take around 10-11 months.
