STEEL BARS IN 4.6 INCH WALL

It is not clear that 4.5 inches partition wall is to be made as brick wall or R.C.C. partition wall.  However, I am taking both cases as follows.

1. Brick partition wall 4.5 Inches thick.

A) If the height of wall is not more than 7 feet, the length of wall is not more than 10 feet and no door and window is provided in the wall,   there is no need to provide any steel bars. These walls are called 4.5 inch thick wall without hoop iron.

B) Hoop Iron wall: If 4.5 inch thick partition wall having different specifications stated above, Hoop iron should be provided in walls as under.

• The size of mild steel flat strips should be 25 mm wide, 1.2 mm thick or 18 gauze should be provided at every fourth course of brick wall i.e. about after 1 feet interval. 
• These Mild Steel flat strips should be embedded in cement mortar with coarse sand 1:4.
• Care should be taken that Mild Steel flat strips should be completely embedded in cement mortar and does not touch bricks at any place.
• If Mild Steel flat strips touch bricks, there is every possibility of rusting the Mild Steel flat strips which may cause cracks in long run.

2. R.C.C. partition wall 4.5 Inches thick

If you are constructing 4.5 inch thick R.C.C. partition wall, use 10 mm dia Mild Steel Bars, 6 inch centre to centre both ways and use cement concrete 1:1.5:3.
