There are over 3000 varieties in marble stone available in the world market. Marble deposits are wide spread in India mainly in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
           Rajasthan is the main depository of marble in India accounts for over 90% of total marble production of the country, with reserves spread over the districts of Nagaur, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Banswara, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Sirohi, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Bundi, Alwar, and Pali. Some varieties  are given below:
Makarana Marble, the main sub-varieties are Kumhari, Doongri, Alberta, Chosira, Pahar Kuwan, Bhot, adanga marble, Makarana chalk, Abu white and Makaran White. Rajnagar Marble is the largest marble-producing area, having units located in the nearby town of Kishangarh to process the material produced. Agaria, Dolomitic,quartz is the best variety of this area. Andhi Marble located near the capital city of the state of Jaipur, the varieties are pista (pistachio) marble, One of the famous varieties of this area was known as Indo-Italian, owing to its resemblance with Satvario Marble. Most of the mining of this famous field is now banned by the Supreme Court of India. The other varieties are Peta Pasu, Uadepur green, Umer ( Bundi ) Jaislmer and Narnaul marble etc.
           In Gujarat, Amba Ji Marble and Baroda green etc. In Madhya Pardesh, Kattani Range and Jabalpur range are famous for marble stone.
           It is not hard and fast rule that costly marbles are more breakable. The hardness and breakage are according to the nature of the stone ore, its crystalline texture and its sound, dense and homogenous nature of stone.

• If the back of the marble tile appears to be covered in a mesh or net, this marble is more fragile than others.
• Examine the surface of the marble under a light, holding it at a 45-degree angle. If there are small, dull patches on an otherwise polished surface, the marble may have "fill" in small holes or    fissures in its surface.
• Ask for the marble's complete name. Thasos AAA is a higher quality of stone than standard Thasos.
• Consider the marble's hardness factor. If a stone has a high hardness factor it means it is a poor quality tile.
