Topic: Using M-Sand and Concrete bricks

Is there any difference between river sand and m-sand in therms of quality and durability? Can we safely replace river sand with m-sand for all house construction work including pillar foundation and ceiling? The price for river sand goes up and still many contractors recommend river sand over m-sand. Is it only a strategy to force the clients to buy river sand in over priced black market? As the M-sand also comes under different brand names and different grades, could you provide any guide lines to choose the best at different stages of construction?

Now a days Concrete Bricks are used in most of the multi-storeyed pillar structure buildings but still clay bricks are preferred in house construction work. So, is it bcoz concrete bricks are in low quality in load bearing capacity compared to clay bricks? Do you recommend using concrete bricks for house construction? If yes, any guide lines for choosing quality concrete bricks? please help.

Dear Vinod

In general the sand particle should be coarser and have minimum silt contents. The silt contents should not be more than 4%.
The quality of the sand has more impact on the strength of the structure inspite of the quantity of the cement used.
1) If there is more silt in coarse sand, the strength of cement mortar is reduced from 1 % to 30%.
2) If you take best quality coarse sand, it will give maximum strength
