According to Vastu, Entire house should not have Basement. The best direction for building the basement is northeast section.  Second alternative direction for basement is the east side of the house. Worst directions are south, west and southeast.

Actually vastu says that sun rays play very important for every room of the house. It gives positive energy for the persons using it. Actually it should not be used for living purposes as well as business. The Basement is  usually meant for Car Parking or for storage etc However some people use the basements for a family room or play room. It should not be used for sleeping.

The basement’s effects will be improved if one-fourth of the basement is above ground.The slope of the floor should downwards towards northeast. The walls should be at least 3m (9 ft) high. 

The basement should be painted white but should not be blue. 

The geyser, water heater, or electrical panels should be in the southeast corner of the basement.
