First important thing is you should not put photographs in pooja room as they distract when you do pooja and can bring back the painful memories.
You should place the ancestors photographs on the south-west wall of living/dining room. | | |

What i think is that by placing photos of parents in pooja room one can pay tribute at the time of worship.It may distract or not, it is upto you. | | |

Long time ago, I was reading an article in enclopedia dealing with hinduism. The article beautifully explained why it's not good idea to hang picture of person who has died. I completely agreed with every point the article made.
So the ultimate question becomes, why do so many Indian put picture of a person who has died in their home? Garland, tikka and flower etc. Is it Bollywood? I do not know.
I think you should ask this question to person of higher authority in religion matter Brahmin etc.
