I am constructing a home and the area size is 28 X 21. It has 9 Pillars each has 9’ X 12 ‘ with 12mm rods of 6. Planning to change the room size and making the center pillar as Dummy. Kindly suggest is it fine to make change? |

It is not clear that you are constructing new construction or emending the old construction. Write in detail what type of information do you need.

Thanks for your quick reply. It is a duplex home constructed by my family. Living room has been extended. Now G Floor is in finishing stage. Looking for the strength of the building to construct more floors. | | |

Without detail design and drawing it is difficult to comment on the strength of building. In my opinion it is better to contact any civil engineer who can guide better after inspection the house site and after taking the idea about loading and foundation to take load of further construction of floors.

Join date: May 2015 | If you remove center column it is sure that unsafe for third floor. Further to remove center column in ground floor or first floor its depend on foundation and slab design details. Better contact local civil engineer and don't take risk. | | |

Hi,
My Brother is constructing a building G+ 1 Duplex home which is almost in Finishing stage. Columns are 12 X 9 with 6 12mm rods. Center one highlighted in Yellow has been made dummy due to the change in Plan and Beam with 16 mm rod has been Provided from the structural beam(Highlighted in Yellow). All the walls are built in the same structure in First Floor. One of his friend recently visited the place and told building strength will be a question since there is no Center Column. He is very much worried now. Could you please help. what corrective action can be take now? | | | | |

Join date: May 2015 | As per attach map the center column not must for two storied building and you may be removed it but depend on slab and beam design. if you remove column after costing the slab it is dangerous and you need to place support by ISMB frame section as per design. | | |
