Advantage of Hollow core Slabs
- Machine made in factory. : Hollowcore slabs are manufactured by machien in factorym, cured, cut to length and stored ahead of the construction shedule ready for the immediate delivery to the project.
- Speed of construction : They are reapidly install with minimum equipment and labour, thus reducing the construction time.
- Immediate work platform - they provide immediate and safe workign platform for following trades. They can be designed to accomodate high construction loads without propping.
- Efficient light weight sections : The hollow voids and prestressing result in reduced dead load for given strength. The dept of the slab and strand pattern can be varied at minimum cost to suit the span and load requirements
- Design flexibility : Hollow core slabs can be used in combination with most buildigns including masonary walls, precast or insitu concrete or steel beams. Hollow Core Slabs can accodoate most buidlign requirements includign openigns , angles and cantilevers.
- Long Span - Hollowcore slabs can accomodate long spans, resulting in colum free open space. Clean spans of upto 20 meters can be economically acheived.
- High Load Capacity : Hollow core slabs are capable of handling the heavey loads required in shopping centres, car parks offices, apartments, and housing and ware house structures at minimum floor depths.
- Fire resisting : The fire resisting level can be achieve by providing covers
- Sound insulation and Thermal Resistance : Hollow core slabs reduces the amoutn of transmitted noise and temperature. by providing sutiable toppings it can be reduced futher.

Hi Girish,
Just viewed your post on Hollow core slabs. I am planning to construct my house very soon and looking forward for clean long spans in part of the construction. So I seek more information on this topic from you.
Can you shed some light on the comparison between conventional slabs and hollow core slabs, for the same quality & strength, in respect of saving in material, costs involved, skill of the labour required, etc? What are the factors governing use of hollow core slabs in the architectural design of a house? How should one plan ahead & place the order? Where are these slabs available from? Any precaustions during transport? merits & de-merits concerning water-proofing treatmentes?
Further, I would like to know if someone has ustilised such slabs for construction of any residential project and would be grateful if you could share the address of the project so that I can physically visit.

The advantages are listed above. the hollow core slabs are much lighter in weight with same strength and even easy for electrical conduit installations.
Biggest advantage being time saving and easy to install and specially if you are looking for large span of area like having a big hall without any beams intercepting, hollow core slab is perfect.
