Dear Laken,
From your query, position of crack is not clear and you have not sent any picture of crack. In addition we want to know that how many years old your building is? There are many possibility of formation of crack i.e. weather the crack is in the finishing of RCC column such as in the plaster or the crack is in the side cover of steel provided in the column or on the top of steel bar due to not providing necessary thickness of cover on the steel bar at the time of laying RCC column or the rusting of steel bar is started due to various causes. You should take help from the articles of cracks given in the section of safety @ gharexpert, link is given below. At this link there are four- five articles relating to cracks are given which are helpful to you. http://www.gharexpert.com/home/new_categorylist.aspx?PL=2&CATID=1371

Dear akinwumi It depends really, every situation is different but the most likely thing is the sheer weight of the building itself causes the ground beneath it to give way and slowly but surely the building sinks into the ground. Some areas of the building sink faster than others, and when this happens it generates cracks in the mortar joints and sometimes in the brick/block themselves.
Lasting solution is its maintenance so the length and depth of all cracks should be measured. The aesthetic requirements of an individual application should be assessed and where necessary colorant may be added to the Rendacrete LW.
