Golden Temple is a place frequented by Sikhs and devotees of all religion and all round the year. Countless pilgrims visit Golden Temple to pay homage to the holy shrine Golden Temple also called as “Hari Mandir” mean Temple of God is situated in the heart of Amritsar.
It is build with marble stone. The main structure (Gurudwara) in the middle of a pool of 150 meters square area. A 60 meters pathway is located on the west side of the pool. Complete pathway is decorated with marble and stylish lamps on both the sides. The flooring of temple has marble tiling whereas the ceiling is constructed with intricate inlay work. One can see “Guru Granth Sahib” on a lower platform beneath a beautiful canopy.
Amritsar faced so many difficulties. So how can Golden Temple be untouched? Afghani looted it three times. At the other hand Maharaja Ranjit Singh donate Rs. 5 lacs for reconstruction of temple and for putting golden plates on walls. Pond covering temple from all side, creates a magical scene. This gives a soothing feeling to all devotees. The holy dip in the pond makes them feel like heavenly bath.
On the second floor there is “Shish Mahal” (Mirror Room). It is gilded with mirrors and has intricate work of various patterns.Above the Shish Mahal there is a big golden dome with several miniature domes. The skill of the craftsmen is marvelous from the nakkashi (intricate carvings) and frescoes inside the temple.
What should I write about lights.Lighting arrangement is just superb in the temple. Night scene creates a great look.
One more specialty of the temple is that has entry from all the directions, which symbolize entry for everyone, and from everywhere. The temple seems to be very calm and cool atmosphere. Pilgrims feel relaxed and away from the tension of world.
In the end I just want to say that Golden Temple is really a “Golden” landmark from every point whether it is architectural, devotional or patriotism and the themes relate both to the Sikhs and the Hindus.
