I was born here…
Ideally, before construction of a new home some steps are to be taken care off such as - searching a land, appointing Architects and Contractors, applying for approvals, designing of buildings and many more. But the situation was different in my case; I didn’t have to follow few of these steps such as searching for land and applying for approvals before construction because we had parental property, which was not very old. We had to demolish that property due to some reasons. To be very frank it was an aching experience that I would never forget throughout my life. I still remember the time the contractor said that we would have to demolish the place where I was born.
Plaster on our head…
Let me put some light on how it was started.
One day my family was planning for a picnic and we all were preparing for the same. By the time when I was packing up my bag my younger sister came to me and said that she had seen a big piece of plaster falling from the roof of kitchen. At that time we had not taken this incident seriously and we moved to execute our plan. After few days my father noticed the same but this time it happened in the study room. Immediately we got alert and started searching for the cause. While searching the root of the problem my family member noticed few more things such as
- There were large cracks on the corner of the walls
- There was dampness on the near by walls of bathroom,
- The doors were unable to open due to cracks in door linter.
The lifeline became the death nail...
First of all we had not understood the root of the problem and to get rid of it we just hired the local contractor to eliminate the problem of cracks through wall plaster and furnishing. But after few weeks these problem occurred again and we all were disturbed with the way things were going own. After all these happenings we all family members arranged a meeting with a specialized contractor and an architect. The experts told that the crack problem may occur due to water in foundation and in order to solve this problem the only way is to dig the flooring near to the cracked walls and check for the leakage of underground water. As we didn’t know where was the leakage so we dug the complete flooring of the most effected areas. After completion of the task we didn’t find any leakage in our area. Then our experts doubted that the water might be coming from neighboring house. Then we requested our neighbors to contribute in elimination of the problem. They allowed us to dig the nearby area for test of leakage. And we finally found out that the actual leakage was from the fresh water pipe of our neighbor’s bathroom, the walls of which were attached to foundation of our house. After finding source of the water leakage we immediately changed the complete pipe system of that area so that we may save our home from further damage.
So the lifeline of our home, the water became the death nail for our old construction by eating into the foundation.
Yes, there was no other choice...
When all these problems came to an end my father planned to build a two room set on the first floor of the building. Therefore we went to the same architect for layout designs. There he suggested not to build a further two room set on the first floor of the building as it may be dangerous for the family members because now the walls are not as strong as it was ever before. And they will not support another two-room set. After his recommendation we also consulted to another architect he also suggested the same that it would be better for us to re construct the complete home and didn’t rely on the current home.
Finally demolished…
As we all know that nothing is more important then life of an individual. My father came to a conclusion to reconstruct the complete home………..
