To tell you the truth; its not about just the interior decoration projects, its about all the projects being done around the world. It all starts really well; there are discussions, designs, pictures, budgets, planning and all good things. And then we move to the most dreaded of all parts, the execution. I have done many engineering projects; but just a few of the interior decoration projects; my own space and my family and friend’s so I don’t know if that qualifies me to write much about this topic but you all would have executed a number of themes so feel free to pitch in. I think the core project management remains same across domains.
Unrealistic expectations
"It looked really nice in my head" How many times have you heard it.
The only problem with imagination is that its too personal and if things are not drawn on paper then this could be the biggest problem to start with. Trust me; the picture that you have in mind is NOT the same picture that your contractor would have in his mind unless it is an actual picture that both of you can see.
Not every Yes means Yes!
This one has a funny bone in it. If you contractor nods to your suggestions then do not assume that the person has understood it completely. Make sure you get him to repeat his understanding and if possible get him to draw that.
Dream on! Not always a good idea
Well; its good that you did a lot of research before starting decorating your space and you want it really the best in the world but don’t change your mind after the project has started. Paint work that hasn’t dried could shock you but hold on for some time it may look completely different after it has dried up.
Trust your architect; interior decorator; designer and your self. If you have planned things well, the results would come out well too.
Yes, you can not feel the pictures
Actually you can not feel the texture of the items in the picture so make sure you have looked at the details and have an idea how it would feel once the work completes.
There are probably several other reasons; feel free to add yours!
