There are two steps in the design of a building
Ø Architectural drawing
Ø Structural drawing
ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING
Before you design a building it is necessary to have knowledge about some basic information which is given below.
- Area of plot on which construction is to be done.
- Type of building - whether Residential or non-residential.
- Requirement of the client department/ house owner. In case of non residential, whether it is official building or an institutional building.
- Whether it is single storey or multi storey.
- Lay out of the area which has information about the north line, entry plot, and position of existing road and surrounding data around the plot and level of the plot.
- High flood level and floor level of the adjoining building.
- The ‘Bye Laws’ of the area such as Municipal committees’ laws etc.
- Position of high tension line and other electricity lines.
- Weather the building falls on the scheduled road.
STRUCTURAL DRAWING
After architectural drawings, the structural Engineer prepares structural drawing which is given below in detail.
- Bearing capacity of the area.
- Water level position.
- Geographical survey should be available as the building may be in a hilly area, sea shore area or in a heavy wind pressure area.
- Architectural appearance.
- Type of loading in the building.
