Wood is one of the most available and workable material used in furniture and is more prone to damage when left unprotected. Exposure to heat and moisture can damage to the best of wooden furniture and leads to high maintenance and restoration costs.
When it comes to moderate weather and rain, teakwood furniture comes to mind. Teakwood can provide about 15 to 20 years of out door services without much complaint. Widely used in the West ‘Teakwood’ furniture is mostly left out side the protective environment of home.
Protective coating for wooden furniture is ‘Teak oil’ which is the best but it is not available widely. Linseed oil is the next best option which is tested and reliable. To apply the coating of linseed oil, the wood is sanded or rubbed using fine grade sand paper 200 to 240. The coating can be done either by applying the brush or by spray.
Cane furniture is not weather-proof and should not be exposed to any level of moisture. Indoor wooden furniture is the best left to the furniture oil available in the market. ‘Johnson Wax’ and ‘Sara Lee’ have excellent products which not only get rid of mildew and fungus but keep wooden furniture fragrant also.
If the furniture have been polished or given some other treatment, it should be done with same color frequently.
