As the name ‘Exterior’ suggests that exterior paints are used for painting the outside of a building, not only for decoration but also for providing a water impermeable film. They are constantly exposed to element like sun, rain, heat and cold waves. Exterior paints take quit a batting. Maturely they possess properties and components that are different from those of interior paint.

Exterior paints are generally classified in following categories.

1. Cement Paint
2. Acrylic Emulsion Paint (exterior use)
3. Special paint and finishes

1. Cement Paint (IS No: 5410-1992):  It contains white or colored Portland cement with certain additives such as lime, pigments, hygroscopic salts, water repellants and fungicides etc. However these paints have limited life of 2-3 years.
2.  Acrylic Emulsion Paint (IS No: 5411, Part2-1974): It contains special additives which provide good protection against UV rays, cold and rain. In terms of performance, life cycle, cost and appeal, these paints are significantly ahead of cement paint and textured finishes. They provide excellent protection against the vagaries of nature, withstanding fairly well, extremes of heat, cold and rain. They are also extremely resistant to fungus and algae, peeling, flaking and fading, staying bright and effective for five to six years.

As you seemed confused now I suggest you to go for a bright paint for exterior use as the life of the paint is 5 to 6 years and the color of the paint is affected by sun, heat, rain, cold waves etc. If you go for a light paint that would become lighter due to weather effects and would look unattractive.

As we get more pictures, we will inform you.

Enjoy..........
