Question details

What is the best flooring for an open kitchen -family room. I need to replace an engineered wood floor by Kahrs. It has warped near the refrigerator from water damage and dents easily. Help, please

The flooring now is Kahrs Stockholm Ash ( very light wood)

which has been discontinued.  The cabinets (custom) are hickory with a cherry finish. I have been considering laminate or tile.  Tile is hard on the feet and I don't know a good-looking good-wearing laminate.  Can you help?

Hi Miriam Porile,

Kitchen floors do not have linoleum anymore. Different choices for kitchen flooring are available. The options from laminate to stone tiles are endless to install in your kitchen. The hard thing is to choose one among all varieties of available flooring. Here are some types of flooring for your choice.
Laminate flooring is an excellent choice for your kitchen. It is durable and easy to clean. It is good for high traffic area that has lots of spills and accidents. Laminate comes in different patterns and colors.  So you are sure to find a style of laminate that fits your decor and desires. Wood laminate floors are very popular as they instantly add warmth and interest to a room and are beautiful to look at. There are also many other different styles of laminate flooring.
Stone flooring is a beautiful option for any kitchen. The downside is the expense but if you have enough budgets, one of the natural stone flooring choices is a wonderful addition to any kitchen. Marble, travertine, and granite are the most common choices in flooring. If you want to match the flooring with your countertops, you are guaranteed to have a kitchen that will stand the test of time, though only if you properly seal them from stains and acid foods.
Tile flooring is an excellent way to update your kitchen. Tile comes in linoleum, vinyl or ceramic. Vinyl and linoleum tiles are the least expensive option and the peel and stick vinyl tiles make it extremely easy for homeowners to lay the tile themselves with little or no problems. Ceramic tile is slightly more expensive and takes a little more expertise to lie, but it is possible for a homeowner to install this tile on their own just fine with a little direction. Ceramic, linoleum and vinyl tile come in different colors and pattern choices.  So it’s sure that you will find a kitchen flooring choice that you are looking for.
When choosing kitchen flooring, you should evaluate how much traffic goes through that room. If your kitchen is attached to an entryway or exit way, the traffic would be heavier than that which is in the middle of the home. Kitchen flooring should be able to withstand spills and accidents and be easy to clean. If you find flooring that meets all these requirements and is well with the rest of your home, you have found right kitchen flooring for you.

Thanks & Wish you goodluck.
