Join date: Mar 2008 | Dear Unnikrishanan It is not clear from your query in what term you want percentage i.e. in term of expenditure or labor part or time consumption for completion of work.It will depend on the specification to be used if you are using teak wood or hollock wood, similarly the case of floor and sanitary appliances etc.If you have detailed estimate than it will be easily calculated.

dear Unni..Hello..! For a double storied building the % age of completion of work is calculated with the help of detailed estimate & disbursement schedule for Bank loan purpose .. mainly it is divided into three or four parts according to requirements of construction..1.Structure up to roof slab 2nd floor. 2.Basic electrification,Water supply & Sanitary installation, Plastering inside and out side.3 .Finishing ( electrification, flooring , wood work in shutters of door/windows, Painting and polishing etc. 4. Compound wall ,gate , outside flooring etc. according to this your work is completed about 20 to 25%..... | |

Join date: Feb 2008 | For commercial projects, usually the original estimate of the work is used to calculate the work completed and it is done by using the cost spent. For example in a building with the following scenario.
Original Material Estimate: Rs. 10 Lac Original Labor Estimate: Rs. 2 Lac Total Estimate: Rs. 12 Lac --- Material Applied to building so far: Rs. 4 Lac Labor Spent: Rs. 0.80 Lac Total Expenses: Rs. 4.80 Lac
Then % completed would be 4.80/12 = 40%
In the example above, following points should be noted. 1) You have to use consistent material pricing. For example, if in your estimate you used Cement bag at 300 but later on purchased cement bag at 310, 320 etc then you should use Rs. 300 to calculate the final cost of the Cement. Extra money paid to purchase cement would be tracked separately otherwise it will distort your % completion number.
The same should be done with the labor cost too.
2) If you have material lying on the site which is not yet implemented in the building or if you have paid advance to the contractor for labor then that money should be taken out of the cost spent on building as it is not yet implemented in the building.
If the original estimate is not available then an estimate using the method above can be prepared but it will again be an estimate at best.
