Topic: Cracks in the slab - urgent help required

Hi,

We have done our slab on this monday. one of the beam was supported with a wood log, which was placed on a small wood piece. Once we pored the concrete mix on to the slab, the wooden piece below  wooden log broke due to its weight and hence the pillar was bent. We have placed another support and lifted the beam a little.

Today morning, I realized that there are cracks around that beam on the slab. They are about 1ft in length and 2mm in width may be 1 inch in depth. I told the same to the engineer and he said it is no problem. He just spilled some cement on the cracks  and said, the cement will go and fill in to the cracks. He also said, as we are going to do the plastering for slab, it should not be an issue. The slab thickness is 4 inch.

By evening, I can see that these are kind of covered, but it is been leaking in small drops to the bottom..

So I have two questions.

1. are the small cracks fine or they will cause any issues in future. should I ask him to re build the slab?
2. Also I was able to see some small white colored ( salt kind of) balls in the water that was stored for curing. They were mentioning it as the water proofing liquid. Is it real or something else?

Please look in to the attache pic

thanks.

Dear Vamsi
You have placed slab on July, 1 and said that the cracks are seen on July, 4.In my view when the shuttering is disturbed, the cracks may be formed on that time. You did not notice them on the next day due to over sight or any other reason may be.As stated by you that you have filled the cement shullary in the cracks. Now watch that the cracks are seen after word or not. The right treatment is, when cracks appeared , than the cracks should be widened and filled with cement coarse sand ratio 1;1 and the height of the filling should be 1cm above the slab top , this way it will avoid the leakage problem.
If the cracks are not appeared further than lay cement coarse sand with fine bazri in the ratio 1;1.5;3 on the cracks at least in 3'' wide strips with full length and height of  concrete strips should be 2cm approximately which will help in leakage. The white balls are no any matter. For removing shuttering not make haste, give proper time for curing at least 14 days. See the Article  with below link
