Water proofing during construction and painting

Hi,My house is now in brick work stage. I want to know what can be done up front for proper water proofing of walls. For slab, we bought some liquid and mixed it with the concrete. Hence I am assuming the slab is more or less water proof. Are any similar stuff available in the market that can be used for walls? If yes please provide me the details such as Brand, Cost, how to mix it with plastering .
