North-East is the best location for Pooja room.  East and North are other good directions. Avoid other directions if possible. You may also keep puja room at Brahmsathan (Center of house).  Avoid puja room in bedroom and it should not be above, below or next to kitchen or toilet. Avoid puja room on other then ground floor and below stairs.
Doors and windows of puja room should be in North or East with a ventilator. White , light yellow or light blue color paint is advisable. Floor could be of white or off-white marble. It is good if you have threshold in puja room. 

Idols should be kept in North-East part of puja room. Keep water body i. e. kalash in North-East and Deepak, Lamp or kund in South-East.  There should be no other use of puja room as store.
In case you don’t have a separate room for puja, place a bench or shelf in select room and cover the shelf by screen or curtain. Keep the screen, curtain close after puja.
  Still you need any remedy for direction or any query, take a help from a vastu consultant who can advise you after review the location.
