Water requirement for 4inch thick rcc roof slab of area 1200sqft.

 Topic: Water requirement for 4inch thick rcc roof slab of area 1200sqft.
Since three is water shortage in my area I want to collect water in tanks/drums for the RCC roof work of my house. The approx slab thickness is 4 inch and area is 1200sqft. So, please suggest the approx. water requirement in liters.

  • Water for nominal mix concrete shall generally be equal to 5% by weight of aggregate and 30% by weight of cement.
  • Generally for vibrated concrete the quantity of water will be less by 20% but the actual quantity shall be determined by the field test for slum.
  • For one bag mixture, 32 liters of water is required and the ratio will be 1:2:4
  • For one bag mixture, 30 liters of water is required and the ratio will be 1:1.5:3 ,

The quantity of concrete is = 1200 * 4/12 = 400 cu.ft = 11.5 cubic meter(cum)

Considering M25 Mix consuming 7 bags cement per cum.

water/cement ratio of 0.55

then water = 0.55 *7*50 = 192.5 liter per cum of concrete

for 11.5 cum ,water = 192.5 * 11.5 = 2214 liters

keep 20% extra miscellaneous use 

than total = 2214 + 0.2*2214 = 2657 liter

keep 2657 liter water tank ready for casting slab
