| Topic: how about Hidden beam in 35' X 15 ' Living area ?
Hi
I have Living room + dining area of 35' X 15'. This area also contains area for stair case on right side. The slab thickness in this area is 5" with Steel bars of size 12mm placed @ 4"c/c. Considering this area of living and dining, it has 3 vertical beams of and one long connecting horizontal beam in it as shown in attached image. How good it would be to replace those beams with Hidden Beams? I am thinking of applying hidden beams to utilize the full height of living room (9'5"). Also if there are so many normal beams inside living rooms it would look odd and then I need to apply False ceiling to hide those normal beams. So considering my plan details is it good idea to apply hidden beams in place of normal beams? If not then what is least height of beam that I can use for my normal beams. Currently my architecture says the beams height will be 15", out of which 5" will be merged inside slab and remaining 10" will be hanging in living area. Attaching my beams plans. Inside this plan beam numbers 12,13,14,15 23,24,25 and 26 I would like to make hidden beam.
Please advise on it.
Many thanks.
regards, Pras

you have not given the dimensions in your plan. In the absence of dimension it is not possible to give any suggestion about the beams.

Thanks for your immediate reply. The dimensions of Living and dining area is shown in attached image "ground floor plan.jpg" in my above post. The total dimension of Living and dining area excluding kitchen is 34.5' X 15'. Kindly have a look at both attached architecture diagrams. May be you will get better idea of dimensions.
Thanks again in advance for your reply.
Regards, Pras

After seeing plan of your house, the beam shown from column C13 to C14 is not required but the other beams are necssary and height may be reduce from 15'' to 12'' with increase in the steel bars up to 25%.

You can avoid the beams by increasing the slab thick to 6" and the reiforcement of 12# @ 4" C/C is too high for that area even its 6" Slab Thick.
Your Plan shows lot of useless columns and beams Even the Circular Column inside the Living. It looks so hard even you give Rich treatments.
You can also avoid the B25-B26 by giving a Cantilever beam from Beam 31 and that beam too can hide with the Last Step of the Staircase. The Folded Steps will give a nice look ( See the attached file).
The consealed beams also required only if you have any main walls in the First floor area and let I know the First floor slabs are Sloped one.
Please Check with some Experienced Structural Engineer.
All the best and Regards
