Cupboards or cabinets are constructed in the commercial building offices, store room and in the house they are constructed in bed room, dressing room and in the kitchen for storing different items required in daily use.
Cup boards are constructed according to requirement and space availability i.e. some are at floor level and some are at high level. In bed room, in dressing room and in store cup boards are constructed at floor level where as in kitchen these are at high level to facilitate the space under these can be used for cooking purposes. Cup boards constructed according to different types of materials used in the construction are given below.
In this type of cupboard construction, walls of cupboard is made with brick masonry using bricks and cement mortar 1; 4 ratio. 4.5’’ thick masonry wall is constructed, leaving the space for cupboard frame hold fast. The top and partition shelves of the cupboard made either from wood or from RCC.
The number of hold fast should be 6 but in no case less than 4.The frame is from wood and wood used may be teakwood, deodar wood or hardwood. The size of frame in general should be 50mmx60mm. The height and width of the cupboard is according to requirement and space availability. Cupboard shutter should be either from wood or ply or block board and some time they are decorated with teak ply or sunmica laminates.Wooden frame is fixed in the brick wall with the help of hold fast or bolt grouted with cement concrete in the brick wall. After fixing the frame 0f cupboard shutters are fixed with PIANO hinges but not use butt hinges. All the fittings are fixed including locking arrangements. Painting polishing may be done according to requirement.
In this type of cupboards the side, back, top and partition shelves and shutters of cupboards all from wood. This is box type cupboard. The back, side and top are made from block board 19mm to 25 mm thick and it should be water proof. The partitions should be from 12mm ply or block board. The shutter of the cupboard should be from 19 mm block board. The shutters are fixed with PIANO hinges but not use butt hinges in any case. Box type cupboard sides and back are in contact with wall so it should be first treated with anti- termite treatment and after it should be well painted before fixing the cupboard. It is fixed with screws on the drilled holes. The shutters are finished with teak ply or with laminates. If teak ply used than fitting of cupboard should be brass fitting.- With mesh, cement and wood:-
In this type of cupboard walls of cupboard is made with cement concrete. 3’’ thick concrete wall is constructed, leaving the space for cupboard frame hold fast. The top and partition shelves of the cupboard made from RCC. The frame of cupboard is of wood and fixed with the help of holdfast.
The cupboard shutters are wire mesh shutter and this type of cupboard/ cabinet is fixed in kitchen to save food items from mosquitoes and flies and also provide aeration. The cupboard shutters are made with wooden styles and wire mesh is fixed in the shutter. The shutters are fixed with hinges and necessary fittings are fixed as per
requirement. The cupboard is painted with paint of required color. ;
Fine sand should consist of natural sand or crushed stone sand. It should be hard, durable, clean and be free from organic matter etc. and should not contain any appreciable amount of clay balls and harmful impurities such as alkalis, salts, coal, decayed vegetation etc.
